Halloween Howl - Four Legged Friends Show Off Their Stuff This Weekend

By Robert Thomas

This weekend is a special one for dog sport enthusiasts as the Moose Jaw Dog Club (MJDC) presents their Halloween Howl inside the Goldwn Mile Arena located on the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds (250 Thatcher Drive East).

Featuring 70 dogs the two day event will feature 250 runs a day over eight separate courses in the Agility Association of Canada (AAC) sanctioned show.

The dogs will be going through tunnels, zig zapping or weaving through poles and of course the ever popular jumps, Tracey Cook president of the MJDC and trial secretary said.

“We are going to little dogs and big dogs, purebred and mixed bread dogs. All kinds of dogs, Cook said, adding “they'll be jumping four inches to 24 inches. It all depends on the kind of dog.”

Admission to the family friendly event is FREE of charge and spectators are welcome to drop in and check out the highly popular sport.

Although the dogs won't be doing any tricks like catching Frisbees or jumping into pools of water it is still entertaining to watch.

“It's Agility. It takes a lot of training,” Cook said.

To help the MJDC defray expenses as a non-profit group there is an optional opportunity (in a photo booth) to get your photograph taken with the dogs for a $25 fee. A downloadable photo will be posted later.
