Vanier Beats Estevan In Football Playoffs

With heavy snowfall on the weekend thoughts locally may be moving away from high school football but hang for a minute there is still one team in playoff contention - the Vanier Vikings.
On Saturday the Vikings faced the Esetvan Elecs and were victorious with a 36 - 21 result The Vanier Vikings were victorious this past Saturday defeating the Estevan Elecs 36 - 21 in South 5A 12-Man Football League playoff action.
The win will see the Vikings face the Swift Current Colts this Saturday.
Lead by two touchdowns each by Joel Marak and Gabe Yasinski the Vikings posted similar offensive yardage numbers compared to the Elecs.
The Vikings would take a first half lead of 14 - 7 over the Elecs.
The first half saw the Vikings record 130 yards in rushing with Yasinski carrying the ball for 59 yards on three carries. He was closely followed in the rushing department by football newcomer Layefa Godwin who ran the ball seven times for 51 yards in the first half.
Both Yasinski and Godwin would record first half touchdowns.
In the second half the Vikings would Hudson Tallon carry the ball three times for 64 yards.
Joel Marak, the Vikings all purpose utility player, would make two second half pass receptions for 71 yards. When added to his single catch for 48 yards in the first half Marak would record 119 yards in total pass reception yards.
Vanier’s rushing offense was 207 yards on 31 carries with the Vikings recording 126 in the air for a total offense of 333 yards.
Estevan in the rushing department would only manage 16 yards rushing in the first half.
In the air however the Elecs would be more successful with 112 yards in pass yardage completing nine out of 18 pass attempts.
The lone touchdown recorded by Estevan in the first half was scored by Tyson Czernick on a one yard rush.
In the second half Estevan would manage 110 yards in rushing on 12 carries.
In the air the Elecs would record 79 yards in passing completing seven out of 16 pass attempts.
Estevan game totals were 126 rushing on 22 carries and 191 yards passing for a game total of 317 yards of offence.
Second half Elecs touchdowns were scored by Khalifa Eishein and Tristen Tober. The Elecs defence also forced the Vikings to concede two points.
