Cast Iron Replacement Moving To Caribou Street West

The 2021 portion of the cast iron water main replacement program kicks off today as crews will start work on the Caribou Street West portions of this year’s work.

Crews will be mobilizing today to replace the cast iron water main on the 400 to 600 blocks of Caribou Street West.

The entire amount of cast iron water main slated to be replaced on Caribou Street West is from 4th Avenue NW to 10th Avenue NW or 1370 meters. It is the longest stretch of cast iron water main slated to be replaced in the 2021 program.

During this initial construction phase the Caribou St. intersections of 5th Avenue NW, 6th Avenue NW and Algoma Avenues will be temporarily closed to traffic.

During the work all businesses will remain open.

The ever popular Dairy Queen accessible to vehicles from the north back lane down from the intersection of 4th Avenue NW and Ross Street West. Pedestrian traffic will allow access from the north sidewalk on Caribou Street as well.

At the present time the contractor is busy completing portions of the 2020 cast iron water main replacement program that could not be finished last year due to the arrival of Winter weather.

Crews are finishing up two sections.

At the present time the 900-1000 Block of Stadacona Street East where crews continue to install private services. Traffic restrictions remain in place.

Beginning Thursday, May 13 (weather permitting) 3rd Avenue NW will be closed between Hall and Macdonald St. (including the intersections at Hall St. and Saskatchewan St.) to begin milling and paving.

The City asks all motorists to drive with caution and obey all signage in the work areas.
