It might be a case of get the snow shovel out as there is the potential of 30 centimeters of snow for Moose Jaw on Sunday.
According to Natalie Hasell, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Moose Jaw can expect to see snow in the range of 10 – 30 centimeters.
Additionally temperatures on Friday night are expected to be -5C so there will be frost gardners and others should be aware of.
The reasons for the cooler temperatures and likelihood of snow is due to a series of low pressure systems coming through the southern Prairies, Hasell said.
“With each low pressure you get a decrease in temperatures,” she said, adding “in a wake of a low winds are from the west and northwest bringing colder temperatures.”
“The next system by this weekend has temperatures in the range which could produce a snow and rain mix.”
Moose Jaw earlier on Thursday was expecting 10 -15 cm of the wet stuff but a revised forecast places the snowbelt right over top of the city.
“The potential of a large amount of snow in your area is not as much Alberta where they are going to get snow and a lot of it.”
Hasell advised people take safety precautions such as checking shingles which may be damaged or cracked foundations.
“The trees are in full leaf and can catch and hold it and branches can break from the weight,” Hasell said, going onto warn if trees are not well rooted there is the potential they topple and fall.
Wet roads and freezing temperatures on Friday night could make for slick road conditions so drivers should take extra caution.
She also advised it is a good time to put an emergency road kit in their vehicles as Winter is approaching. Click here for more information.
