Midget A Mavericks Pick Up A Pair Of Home Wins
It was a productive weekend for the Moose Jaw Midget A Mavericks as the team managed to pull off a couple impressive victories.
Friday November 29 - Mavericks 8 Renegades 2
In game one last Friday evening the Mavericks managed to defeat the visiting Regina Renegades 8 – 2 with a seven goal first period scoring fest.
The Mavericks opened the scoring on the power play the 16:53 mark when Makalya Anderson scored assisted by Mattea May.
Moose Jaw scored their second goal at 13:41 when Anderson scored again assisted by Taylor Luciak and Eowyn Stokes.
At the 11:38 mark Kami Schumack scored assisted by Nikita Halyk.
The fourth Mavericks goal would be their second power play marker when Sidney Ellingson scored unassisted.
The Mavericks captain Kaelyn Logan scored at the 8:40 mark assisted by Stokes.
Luciak would score the Mavericks sixth goal of the first period at the 7:39 mark assisted by Brooklyn Nimegeers.
The final and seventh goal by the Mavericks in the first period was scored by Logan unassisted at the 4:04 mark.
The second period saw the Regina Renegades get on the board on the power play at the 5:52 mark with Janella Haas scoring with Mackenzie Senger drawing an assist.
The Mavericks though would respond at the 1:43 mark on the power play with Ellingson scoring assisted by Ember DuSomme and Anderson who notched her third point of the game.
The third period saw Regina score on the power play as Piper Ast scored at the 3:11 mark assisted by Reese Sparvier.
Shots on goal were 52 for the Mavericks and the Renegades 22.
Saturday November 30 – Mavericks 6 Prairie Storm Thunder 3
The Saturday was tougher on the scoresheet for the home team but it was also a game offensively which bounced the Mavericks way.
At the 15:39 mark Ellingson opened the scoring assisted by Anderson and Logan on the power play.
Halyk scored less than a minute later at 15:07 to give the Moose Jaw squad a 2 – 0 lead heading into the first period intermission with the assists going to Ashley Breitkruz and Schumack.
The second period saw the Prairie Storm Thunder draw within a goal when Peighton Materi scored at the 19:47 mark assisted by Mallory Tillotson.
The Mavericks once again took a two goal lead when Logan scored at the 14:09 mark assisted by May.
Logan would add her second of the game assisted by Lindsay Daniel and DuSomme at the 8:51 mark.
The Prairie Storm Thunder would respond on the power play at the 3:01 mark when Kate-Lynn Abrook scored assisted by Alexa Materi.
The Prairie Storm Thunder would once again come within a single goal when Delaney Dziurzynski scored at the 15:55 mark Lexi Thacyk and Ren Hubick assisting.
The Mavericks however would end any comeback hopes for the Prairie Storm Thunder when Luciak scored at the 13:39 mark assisted by Anderson.
Logan would round out the scoring with her hat trick goal at the 12:20 mark assisted by Anderson.
Shots on goal were 41 to 21 in the Mavericks favour.
The win puts the Mavericks temporarily in first place in the Saskatchewan Midget A division play with 14 points with seven wins and one loss just ahead of the Leroy based East Central Fillies who have 13 points and hold one game in hand.
