Mavericks To Play Big Game Saturday Afternoon
It could be the game which decides the ultimate regular season champion as the Moose Jaw Midget A Mavericks square off in Sasktchewan Female Hockey League action against the Leroy based East Central Fillies at 2:45 pm Saturday afternoon at the Bert Hunt Arena - 855 Lilloet Street West.
The winningest team in local Moose Jaw hockey the Mavericks are up against a scoring powerhouse in the Fillies. With Christmas just a few days away and other top division teams already breaking for the holidays this will be the biggest hockey game in town until the break is over.
Athough all Mavericks games are free to attend as part of the season of giving the team is requesting fans to bring a non-perishable food item. All food gathered will be donated to the Moose Jaw and District Food Bank to help the needy in the community.
The league leading Mavericks (10 - 1 - 0) are tied with the Fillies (9 - 0 - 2) at 20 points each. The last time the two teams met it was November 3rd where the Fillies handed the Mavericks their first loss 4 - 0.
With five more games in the regular season the game could ultimately decide which team ends up in first place although Mavericks head coach says anything is possible in the end of the season.
“.We are hoping for a good contest. We have a few girls that will not be there due to Christmas holidays which could hurt but they may be in the same situation too. We’ll see what happens tomorrow,” Bechtold said Friday afternoon.
