Fillies Gallop Past Midget A Mavericks

In their first loss of the year the Moose Jaw Midget A Mavericks found them shutout 4 – 0 by the East Central Fillies in Leroy on Sunday afternoon.

In a game which saw the previously unbeaten Mavericks not only outscored but outshot in the contest.

At 11:35 of the first period Fillies captain Bridgette Vedress scored assisted by Kaylee Hoffman.

The Mavericks lost one of their top goal scorers at the 2:54 mark when Nikita Halyk was given a two minute penalty plus a game misconduct for checking from behind.

The Fillies were assessed two penalties in the first period but the Mavericks were unable to capitalize.

First period shots on goal were 11 – 5 in the Fillies favour.

The second period saw the Fillies manage to score three goals.

At 6:37 Vedress scored the insurance marker unassisted.

Then at 3:35 Jacelyn Kelly would score assisted by Addison Leicht.

With 16 seconds left in the second period Kelly would notch her second goal of the game on the power play – after Kami Schumack was called for hooking at 1:10. Assists went to Cassidy Klappak and Lauren Hinz.

The Mavericks Courtney Botterill was assessed a two minute tripping penalty at 14:14 which was successfully killed off.

Second period shots on goal were 15 – 3 in the Fillies favour.

The third period was scoreless with the Mavericks killing off a two minute minor for hooking assessed against Lindsay Daniel at the 16:50 mark.

The third period shots were 11 – 6 in the Fillies favour.

In total Mavericks goaltender Schay Camphaug managed to stop 28 of the 32 total shots she faced in the loss.
