Moose Jaw Soccer Partners with Vancouver Whitecaps

Exciting things are happening for Moose Jaw Soccer that will undoubtedly lead to opportunities for the city's soccer lovers going forward. 

Enter the Moose Jaw Prospects Academy.

The Moose Jaw Soccer Association(MJSA) has announced a partnership with Major League Soccer club, the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Whitecaps have created a network of 20 Academy centres across the country; one of which will be right here in Moose Jaw.

"There was already one in Saskatoon. They were looking for a second one here in the province, so we swooped in" said Jordan Jeffery, MJSA's Technical Lead, adding "we have the best facility in the province."

The ultimate goal is to create a pathway for success for the province's skilled soccer players. A pathway that already exists for other sports.

"With hockey we've got the Warriors and the NHL; with football you've got the riders, and now with soccer there will be opportunities" Jeffery added.

Successful players will have the chance to either play for the Whitecaps Boys Academy or the Girls Elite Program, both of which are in Vancouver.

"We ran a camp in July" Jeffery said. "We had kids show up from Yorkton, Stoughton, Weyburn and Regina."

The academy begins on November 4th and will be held at the Yara Centre. It will be coached by Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Head Coach, Jonathon O'Neill. In order to register, kids need to be signed up with the Vancouver Whitecaps. You can do so by clicking here. 

"It's going to be a lot of hard work" Jeffery acknowledged, "but we're hoping to raise the bar for soccer here in Saskatchewan."

The Vancouver Whitecaps are currently sporting a record of 10 Wins, 7 Draws and 9 Losses. They are home to 17 year old Canadian phenom Alphonso Davies and World Cup goal scoring defenseman Kendall Waston.

Here is a complete schedule for the November Academy:

  • Timeslot 1: U8-U11 Boys & Girls - 1st 60 minutes
  • Timeslot 2: U12-U14 Boys & Girls - 2nd 60 minutes
  • Timeslot 3: U15-U18 Boys & Girls - 3rd 60 minutes
    • November 4th -    3:00pm to 6:00pm
    • November 11th -  2:00pm to 5:00pm
    • November 18th -  6:30pm to 9:30pm
    • November 25th -  5:00pm to 8:00pm
    • December 2nd -   6:00pm to 9:00pm
    • December 9th -    4:00pm to 7:00pm
    • December 16th -  4:00pm to 7:00pm
    • January 6th -        6:00pm to 9:00pm
