Event Financials Will Have To Wait
It’s likely not going to be the answer all people are going to be happy with but if you want to know the financials on the World Para Ice Hockey Championships - held May 28 - June 4, 2023 - you are going to have to wait.
That’s the answer given in the agenda package for this coming Tuesday’s regular meeting of Council.
“Financial information regarding the World Para Ice Hockey Championships that were held at the Moose Jaw Events Centre from May 28 – June 4, 2023, will be provided in the Quarter 3 Financial report,” a report to Council read.

The answer is in response to an written enquiry submitted six weeks ago by Councillor Jamey Logan at the August 14, 2023 regular meeting of City Council.
Councillor Logan’s enquiry was: “Is there a profit and loss statement for the recent world sledge hockey world championships held and if so can Council please see it?”
At their July 24th meeting the City’s contractor operating the Moose Jaw Events Centre presented a 31 minute glowing report about the positive impact of the event.
Presently it unknown officially if the highly lauded event turned a loss or a profit.
It needs to noted that in the past a communication strategy which accentuated the positive nature of events without revealing the financials was seen in the KPMG report as one reason for the near financial collapse of the then Mosaic Place.
