Ball Diamonds Named After The Late Eddie Moore
By Robert Thomas
During his stay on this earth the late Gordon Edward “Eddie” Moore is said to have lived, breathed and dreamt about female fastball.
It was said to be the center of Eddie's life with Moore putting not hours, weeks or years but rather decades into the sport.
And now that he has passed away the field - Caribou Heights fastball diamonds - where Moore put so much of his life into will now bear his name.
The former Caribou Heights fastball fields are now known officially as Eddie Moore Park. The renaming is effective January 1, 2023.
This after Council approved a motion from the Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Advisory Committee.
The committee had been approached by the Moose Jaw Senior Ladies Fastball Association to make the request to honour the late Moore.
Who Was Eddie Moore?
According to his obituary Moore was very involved in sports in the community - especially in the area of coaching softball teams over the years.

“Ed was very involved in sports and he played hockey for the Moose Jaw Crusty Canucks for many years. He enjoyed the time he spent on the ice.
Ed also coached football for the Elks Minor Football league and took the South Hill Roughriders to provincials a few times.
He was also part of the coaching staff of the Riverview Royals football team.
But Ed’s greatest love was for the sport of softball.
He had a gift for teaching and coaching softball and he was great at it.
His talent at this gave him a legacy in Moose Jaw and the respect and love of many softball players that he coached and trained throughout the years.
He remembered them all and kept mementos of his time spent with them.”

Moore sadly passed away suddenly on April 20, 2022.
Council Discussion
Renaming the Caribou Heights to honour Moore tugged at the heart strings of Councillor Dawn Luhning.
Councillor Luhning had played fastball years ago under Moore's tutelage.
“I’m 100 percent in favour of this motion being I was one of those fastball players that played alongside Coach Moore,” she said.
“He lived for that diamond, for those girls and for senior ladies fastball and I couldn't think of a more appropriate name for Caribou Heights…being I was involved in building those diamonds out there it has almost come full circle for me.”
The motion was passed unanimously with a 7 - 0 vote.
