Spray Park Granted Municipal Project Status

The projected cost may be over a quarter of a million dollars but the cost to cool off for countless kids in the neighbourhood may well be priceless.

That is the message the Northwest Community Association brought to Executive Committee Monday afternoon as they requested the committee vote to have a proposed spray park for Regal Heights Park declared a municipal project thereby allowing the issuance of income tax receipts for donations.

It was a message endorsed unanimously by Executive Committee. With Committee members congratulatory towards the Community Association’s efforts.

Speaking on behalf of the Northwest Community Association Craig MacLeod said the proposed spray park itself would cost $185,946.09 installed going to tender when the time comes.

The City of Moose Jaw provided an estimate for the landscaping at $67,250.00. the total proposed cost would come in at $253,195.09.

There is no expectation currently from the City to contribute any funds. The Northwest Community association is looking to raise the money through available grants and fundraising initiatives and hope to break ground in the spring of 2023.

The proposed spray park for Regal Heights Park was announced late in May by the Northwest Community Association. The spray park will include not only the actual fully accessible spray park for children of all ages to enjoy but additionally a wheelchair accessible access as well as picnic tables and benches.

Regal Heights Park is on 13th Avenue NW just north of the 7 - 11 convenience store and at the present time includes an outdoor skating rink, soccer pitch, ball field, mature trees and a child’s playground as its major features.

According to the report to Executive Committee “Approving the designated municipal project will allow the Association to enhance their existing fundraising campaign to raise the necessary funds over the next 2-years.”
