A number of reports were presented by citizen advisory committees.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
A letter was received advising that Motif has been cancelled for 2018.
A brief discussion was held into increasing the interest and membership in the committee.
A suggestion was made to have a Saskatchewan Polytechnic student join the committee in the Fall. The Committee was reminded that, as per the bylaw, only Moose Jaw residents may sit on the committee.
Also, Councillor Don Mitchell, who has recently resigned, has requested to remain on the committee as he is a member of the Scottish Association.
The matter will be reviewed in September.
A report to Council about the May 5th strategic planning session was discussed and ready to be presented to Executive Committee.
SPECIAL NEEDS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Bill Anderson, acting Transit Manager, gave a brief report about the transit services.
The committee was told two regular buses with the ability to kneel are now in service. Two new special needs buses have been ordered, once they arrive two buses will be retired.
Additionally, special needs buses are running at capacity with medical trips taking priority.
A Regina transit initiative where people with special needs who are familiar with using the regular transit system was discussed.
The study of accessibility in public and private places was discussed. The study being conducted through Sask Polytechnic architectural students is expected to be completed in September.
YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The placing of a permanent Treaty Four flag was discussed.
The single use plastic bag reduction or ban was discussed.
The committee discussed getting the committee established and running earlier.
ENVIRONMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
A tour of the Regina landfill was discussed. Dates are yet to be confirmed.
A report was given on the solid waste utility.
HOUSING ADVISORY COMMITTEE
A report was given on the housing business plan update.
The committee recommended that Council adopt a new housing incentive and housing reserve policy.
