Two Former Mavericks In Running For Esso Cup

The coming week (April 21 - April 27) is a big one as they are set to play in the Canadian female hockey championship, the Esso Cup, in Vernon, BC.

Former standouts in the Moose Jaw Mavericks program Brooklyn Nimegeers and Ashley Breitkreuz are set to hit the ice as members of the U18 AAA Regina Rebels.

Breitkreuz - who has committed to Trinity Western - scored 11 goals and added 13 assists for the Rebels in the 2023 - 2024 campaign.

Point-wise Breitkreuz doubled last year’s point total of 12 points on 4 goals and 8 assists.

Nimegeers - who has committed to the Princeton Tigers - had a blockbuster season on the Regina Rebels defence.

Nimegeers had a record 40 points with 10 goals and 30 assists.

The total gave her the all time points record beating out the Regina Rebels Sydney Peterson who set the record of 33 points in the 2019/2020 season.

She was named the Colleen Sostorics Top Defensemam as well a defensemam on the First Team All-Star Team in the 2023/2024 campaign.

The Rebels are off to the national championship for the second year in a row. Last year the Rebels picked the bronze medal.

The Rebels take on their first challenger the North York Storm on Sunday at 11 am PDT.
